Metal wire gauze corrugated packing is a wire gauze structured packing for a very high number of separation stages. It performs well at low liquid loads and can greatly reduce column height.
Corrugated sheets of fine wire cloth, stacked into blocks inside a column. It gives a very large surface for liquid and gas to meet, for very precise separation.
Choose This Product When
- You need a very high number of theoretical plates
- You want to reduce column height
- Your products are difficult to separate, heat-sensitive or high-purity
- You run vacuum distillation, where a low pressure drop is essential
Product Description
Metal wire gauze corrugated packing is suitable where a very high number of theoretical plates is needed, and it can greatly reduce the height of the column. It has a high number of theoretical plates, large flux, low pressure drop, good performance at low loads, large operating flexibility and no obvious scale-up effect.
Its low pressure drop makes it a common choice for vacuum distillation.
How It Works
Liquid spreads over the fine wire gauze as a thin film, pulled along by capillary action even at very low liquid rates. This gives a very large wetted surface where the rising vapour and the liquid can exchange components.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I choose wire gauze packing instead of perforated plate packing?
When you need many separation stages in a limited column height, high product purity, or good performance at low liquid loads. Perforated plate packing is the more economical general-purpose choice.
Which sizes are available?
Specific surfaces of 250, 500 and 700 m²/m³. A higher number gives more separation stages per metre.
Is the packing made to my column?
Yes. It is made to your column diameter and supplied in pieces that fit through the manway.
