An oil-water coalescer is a wire mesh unit installed in separator vessels. The coalescer removes free water from oil products, and droplets from gas.
A wire mesh unit inside a separator. It makes tiny water droplets in oil merge into larger drops, which are heavy enough to sink and be removed.
Choose This Product When
- Free water must be removed from a liquid oil product
- Droplets must be removed from the gas phase in a separator
- You operate a cold high-pressure, pre-hydrogenation or reaction product separator
- Your water droplets are too small to settle out by gravity alone
- Water must be removed from oil, and droplets from gas, in the same separator
Types
Product Description
Wire mesh coalescers are used in refining and chemical units, for example as bottom coalescers in cold high-pressure separators, in reforming pre-hydrogenation gas-liquid separators and in reaction product separators. They separate free water from liquid oil products, and liquid droplets from the gas phase.
How It Works
Tiny water droplets in the oil touch the mesh wires and stick to them. More droplets join them on the wires until the drops are large enough to sink. They settle to the bottom of the vessel, where the water is drained off, and the dry oil leaves from the top.
Applications
- Cold high-pressure separators
- Reforming pre-hydrogenation gas-liquid separators
- Reaction product separators
Often Used in These Industries
Features
- Wire mesh blocks in a frame
- Circular and direct-flow designs
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a coalescer do?
It makes small droplets merge into larger drops that are heavy enough to separate – for example water droplets in oil.
Where is a coalescer installed?
Inside the separator vessel, in the path of the flow, often together with other separator internals.
Can a coalescer be added to an existing separator?
In many cases, yes. Send us the vessel drawing and process data, and we check what fits.
