A trough distributor is a widely used liquid distributor for packed columns. It spreads liquid evenly over the packing and is easy to install.
A set of open channels above the packing. Liquid fills the channels and flows out evenly through notches, so the whole packing is wetted evenly.
Choose This Product When
- You need even liquid distribution and stable operation
- You want easy installation and levelling
- You need low pressure drop
Product Description
The trough liquid distributor is a gravity distributor. Because it distributes liquid by liquid level, it easily gives even distribution and stable operation. It has excellent overall performance and is very widely used.
How It Works
Liquid enters a central parting box and flows into a set of parallel troughs. It leaves through notches or holes in the trough walls and falls evenly onto the packing below, while gas rises through the open spaces between the troughs.
Features
- Easy to install and level
- Point-to-point error below 5%
- High spray-point density, little entrainment
- Very low pressure drop, large operating flexibility
Applications
- Packed columns
Often Used in These Industries
Types Available
- Single trough
- Secondary (two-stage) trough
- Overflow trough
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is liquid distribution so important?
Packing only performs well when liquid is spread evenly over it. Poor distribution reduces the efficiency of the whole bed.
Trough, pipe or pan distributor – which one?
Trough distributors suit a wide range of liquid loads and resist fouling. Pipe distributors suit medium or low loads. Pan distributors are often used in smaller columns.
Is the distributor made to my column?
Yes – made to your column diameter, liquid load and packing type.
