Column packing (tower packing) – structured packing and random packing – gives gas and liquid a large surface to meet on, for better separation in distillation, absorption and other packed bed columns. Structured packing gives high efficiency at a low pressure drop. Random packing, such as Pall rings and Raschig rings, is the robust choice for high liquid loads and dirty service.
